Ford Fiesta, most popular Car in Europe 2010


Ford Fiesta beat Volkswagen Golf in terms of sales on the European market, and Ford is the best selling automaker in Europe in the first quarter of this year. 
Ford Fiesta has become the best selling car in Europe after it beat the Volkswagen Golf. Ford sold 68,630 Fiesta units in March 2010, with 25.8% more than the same period last year and 11,785 units more than the number of Volkswagen Golf sold in the same month. Also, those of the Ford sold 140,496 Fiesta cars during January-March 2010, with 21.7% more than the same period of the last year, while Volkswagen Golf number of units sold was 135,048, with 10.4% more compared to the same period of 2009.

The most important sales growth was achieved by the Opel Astra, which increased by 42.9 percent in March in Europe. On the UK market, the new Astra increased by 75.9 percent in March, being the third top selling model. Unlike the other two models, Opel Astra’s sales increased significantly due to the launch of the new generation of this model, the Astra “J”.

In terms of sales by brand, Ford is leading the ranking in March with 169,871 units, followed by Volkswagen with 168,053 and Renault with 130,748 cars. In fourth place come Opel with 123.466 cars sold and Peugeot with 116.732 units. The fifth place of the list is occupied by Fiat, with 108,458 units, being the last automaker on the list with more than 100,000 units sold in March 2010.

The biggest car market in Europe is the UK market, followed by the markets Germany and France. Overall, in March 2010 were sold 1,647,584 cars on the European market, while in March 2009 were sold only 1,500,594 units. Thus, Europe’s car market grew by 9.8% in a year, in spite of fleet renewal programs have ended funds since the autumn of 2009.
